(And Why It’s About So Much More Than Jobs)
Let’s be honest… most people only look at their CV when they have to. Usually when they’re fed up, underpaid, overlooked, made redundant, or suddenly realise they’ve drifted into a career that no longer fits who they are.
Sound familiar?
Your CV often gets treated like an admin task. A dusty old document. Something to update quickly on a Sunday afternoon before firing off a few applications and hoping for the best.
But here’s the truth…
Your CV is not just a document. It’s a mirror.
It reflects:
how you see yourself
how clearly you understand your value
whether you’re still living in your past or ready to step into your future
how confidently you communicate what you bring to the table
And that’s why so many CVs fall flat.
They list duties. They hide achievements. They undersell brilliance. They focus on job titles rather than impact. Worst of all… they often reflect the version of you that has outgrown itself.
Before the CV Comes the Clarity
One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to rewrite their CV before working out what they actually want.
Do you want more money?
More flexibility?
More purpose?
A healthier culture?
A role that uses your strengths?
A fresh industry?
A leadership opportunity?
To finally do something you genuinely care about?
This is why I wrote my book
Because career change isn’t just about applying for jobs. It’s about reconnecting with who you are, what lights you up, what you’re good at, and what kind of life you actually want to live.
Then we reverse engineer from there.
It’s Not About Job Titles
So many people get hung up on titles.
Manager. Director. Head of. Senior this. Junior that.
Titles can matter, yes — but they are not the whole story.
What matters more is:
the scale of your responsibility
the problems you solve
the results you create
the people you lead
the energy you bring
the language that positions you properly in the market
A great CV translates all of that into something powerful, clear and commercially attractive.
Energy Matters Too - Massively!
Yes, I said energy.
You can feel when someone has written a CV from fear, frustration or desperation. And you can also feel when someone knows their worth.
Confidence doesn’t mean arrogance. It means clarity.
When someone starts to truly recognise their own value, it changes everything:
the roles they apply for
the salary they ask for
how they interview
how they carry themselves
what opportunities they attract
I See It All The Time
I recently worked with a client who came to me with a perfectly “fine” CV.
Professional. Safe. Accurate.
But it didn’t reflect the scale of what he was doing, the commercial results he was delivering, or the leader he had become.
Once we repositioned him properly, something shifted.
Not just on paper.
In him.
He started seeing bigger opportunities, valuing himself differently, and showing up with more confidence.
That’s the real transformation.
Your CV Can Be a Tool for Reinvention
Sometimes all it takes is one document (and some professional CV support in the process) done properly to help you realise:
👉 you’ve outgrown your current role
👉 you’re worth more than you’re being paid
👉 you’re ready for leadership
👉 you’re not stuck
👉 you have more options than you thought
If Your CV No Longer Reflects Who You Are…
…perhaps it’s time for more than an update.
Perhaps it’s time for a reset.
A rethink.
A repositioning.
A shining of the light on you.
