Motivating Your Mojo aka Kicking 2023 into Touch Today!

Oh, heck we’re speeding towards the shortest day and, Christmas.

And the end of 2022 which means we will soon be starting 2023!  How did that happen?!

It really is astonishing how quickly the days, weeks, and months fly by.  Which is why it really is important to be mindful of how we spend our time. After all, time is the one thing none of us can ever get back.

Back in 2005, when I divorced my ex-husband, ending a 20-year relationship, I recognised the opportunity that I had created – to have a second stab at life in this lifetime.  And that is the approach I have adopted ever since.  I grasp new experiences and absolutely love expanding my mind through ongoing personal development and sharing my knowledge and wisdom with clients, and all who come into my orbit.

Back to contemplating Christmas and the New Year – the bright lights and craziness of the festive season can leave many of us reeling as we enter another new year with thoughts of resolutions that are all too easily forgotten within a matter of days.  You know the ones – ‘I’m going to give up smoking and/or drinking’, ‘I’m signing up to the gym and will have a beach-ready body by the summer’, ‘I’m going to go out less and save money’ … we’ve all made resolutions like this, I’m sure. So much pressure, ‘cold turkey’ action, determination and consistency required to make it all happen. I applaud you if you can go for it, and stick to it, however, I would also like to suggest simply taking a different approach to life.

Living in the present moment involves learning from the past and planning for the future, whilst keeping yourself grounded in the present. Dealing with what is happening now as opposed to projecting happiness into the future or dragging stuff that no longer serves you emotionally and/or physically along with you.  Letting go, freeing yourself is so liberating.

Shifting your mindset is incredibly powerful and will really help you to transform the year ahead.

My APE Mindset™ methodology is a very simple technique to adopt.

A = Acceptance

P = Perspective

E = Energy

How does that help you?

Let me expand.

ACCEPTING what you can or can’t change releases you from battling against something that you’re unlikely to be able to change, and in letting go, and accepting this situation, you’re liberating yourself from that situation.  For example, if you accept that no-one is answering the door you’re knocking at, you can move on, knock on another door and potentially be welcomed in with open arms and a hot brew! I also liken this acceptance to the pandemic – lockdown was forced upon all of us, we couldn’t change what was happening.  It was out of our control, however, the way we experienced the situation lay completely with us.

Which is where PERSPECTIVE comes into to play.

When you shift your perspective and look at the situation you find yourself in differently and look for the positives and/or the learning, you will experience life differently.  Again, I will refer the pandemic and lockdown.  It impacted everyone differently, but those who thrived saw an opportunity to do things differently.  On a personal level, it knocked 7 bells out of my recruitment business, however, I saw the opportunity for personal development and growth in other areas and grasped it.

Which is where the ENERGY kicks in.

Where your focus goes, energy flows so focus your mind on a positive direction.  If you keep pushing against something that isn’t happening (remember that door knocking?), you’re wasting your own energy.   Take time to think about what activities you can change or do differently in 2023, and channel your energies towards them instead and see what happens.

Of course, it is always a good idea to have a plan of what you want to achieve in the coming year too so take some time out to plan Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 whilst keeping them realistic, and creating a few alternative options in there too.  And it’s worth noting that everything is moveable, so celebrate what you are achieving along the way rather than beating yourself up for the stuff that hasn’t happened yet.  It might just be a lesson in application, activity levels or quite simply patience!

(I include myself in the latter!)

Take time out for yourself during 2023.  Take time to breathe, meditate, go for a walk, do some exercise, or simply move about more.  Take time to think about what you are putting into your body in terms of nutrition and news!

Our gut health is vitally important to our wellbeing, as is the stuff we feed our minds too!  The world is such an incredible place to live in and yet when we listen to the news, we can be forgiven for thinking the complete opposite.  My honest suggestion is to TURN IT OFF!

Tune in to your instinct, your intuition, follow your gut feeling and that positive, supportive voice from within that wants what is best for you.

There is always so much to be grateful for too – try starting the day with some feel-good vibes by showing gratitude to all the things that are going well for you.  Start by listing three simple things, such as the roof over your head, the food on your plate, the nature you are surrounded by, and expand from there.

Use a journal, get the stuff out of your head and onto paper – it helps you to think things through.  Where possible, if you have stuff that you have been wanting to achieve forever and a day, make 2023 the year you engage with a coach, mentor, or even join a group of like-minded folk who will help you to achieve and make your desires a reality.

Life is an illusion of your own reality – how you experience it is all down to you.

Make 2023 an awesome year and celebrate all those wins and remember it’s the small wins that really make the biggest difference.
